Adult, juvenile wounded in Eastern Henrico shooting

An adult and a juvenile were wounded in a shooting in the 3500 block of Ammons Avenue in Eastern Henrico County late Friday afternoon, Henrico Police officials said.
Just before 4 p.m., a Henrico Police officer was approached by the driver of a vehicle near the intersection of Mechanicsville Turnpike and East Laburnum Avenue who said he had been shot. The juvenile victim and another adult also were inside the vehicle; the third adult had not been shot.
Both victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment; police said that the juvenile's condition is critical, while the adult has non-life-threatening injuries.
Police shut down all eastbound lanes of Mechanicsville Turnpike between Byron Street and East Laburnum Avenue to investigate the incident but left the two westbound lanes open.
Since the preliminary investigation indicated that the shooting happened in a nearby neighborhood off Ammons Avenue, residents of that area were alerted that they may see a large police presence there.
