RIR to admit children 12 and younger free next year

Richmond International Raceway will admit children 12 and younger free to all NASCAR XFINITY Series and Camping World Truck Series races beginning next year. The track already had been admitting children free to XFINITY series races and now is participating in an industry-wide effort to admit them free at Truck Series races as well.

The announcement, made Monday, was a part of a week-long youth initiative called Kids Drive NASCAR, highlighting the importance kids play in expanding the sport's reach.

RIR also offers reduced pricing for kids at NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. When the track moved to a three-day schedule for the April 2016 race, it extended the free admission initiative for children 12 and younger to Friday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pole Qualifying day.

“This sport was built on generations coming to the race track together, and I am proud to be part of an industry that is focused on its heritage and its future with this industry-wide youth initiative,” said Dennis Bickmeier, president of Richmond International Raceway.

During next month's NASCAR weekend at RIR, the track will host its Kids’ High-Five Tunnel on Friday, Sept. 9. The first 50 children 12 and younger who stop by the RIR Kids Club Tent on the Midway will have the chance to high-five their favorite NASCAR XFINITY Series drivers on the track during driver introductions for the Virginia529 College Savings NASCAR XFINITY Series race.

During pre-race ceremonies, Cub Scout Pack 735 will lead fans in the Pledge of Allegiance for the third time.

The track also offers its free RIR Kids Club for children 12 and younger. For details, visit the Family Fun page at http://www.rir.com.
