Henrico to hold Oct. 19 workshop on Route 5 Corridor/Marion Hill Study


The Henrico County Planning Department will hold a workshop Thursday, Oct. 19 for residents and other members of the public to provide additional input for a study of the Route 5 corridor and Marion Hill areas.

The workshop will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at John Rolfe Middle School, 6901 Messer Road. The meeting will include an overview of community input received so far and an explanation of how it is reflected in the study’s draft goals and objectives.

Henrico to receive Homeland Security grant awards


Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe announced recently the culmination of a stakeholder-driven process to allocate more than $6.1 million through various federal grant programs to enhance emergency preparedness and security throughout the Commonwealth. The funds will be administered by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management to support a wide array of emergency preparedness and security operations, equipment replacement, training, planning and exercise programs by local governments.

Equality groups to host House of Delegates candidate forum Oct. 24


Four equality organizations are partnering to host a Virginia House of Delegates candidate forum in Henrico Oct. 24.

The forum is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Ridge Elementary School, preceded at 5:45 p.m. by a "Meet the Candidate" session.

Henrico Earns SNAP Hunger Award

Henrico County was among the recipients of the Bronze Hunger Champion Award as part of the 2010 Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), announced last month by the USDA. Award recipients were cited for demonstrating exemplary service, conducting outreach activities and assisting eligible clients to obtain nutrition benefits.

Sales Tax Revenues Up 5 Percent

County Totals Jump During First Quarter of FY11
Henrico County's sales tax revenue grew by 5.1 percent during the first quarter of its 2011 fiscal year, compared to the same quarter during the 2010 fiscal year – an encouraging sign for county officials. During the same quarter, the sales tax revenue in Richmond fell by 23.7 percent, while Chesterfield witnessed a 0.6 percent decline and Hanover saw a 1.9 per increase.

Obama Visits Central Virginia
