Henrico to hold Oct. 19 workshop on Route 5 Corridor/Marion Hill Study


The Henrico County Planning Department will hold a workshop Thursday, Oct. 19 for residents and other members of the public to provide additional input for a study of the Route 5 corridor and Marion Hill areas.

The workshop will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at John Rolfe Middle School, 6901 Messer Road. The meeting will include an overview of community input received so far and an explanation of how it is reflected in the study’s draft goals and objectives.

Megabus Entering Richmond Market

Megabus, a low-fare express bus service that features environmentally friendly buses with Wi-Fi for riders, announced today that it will begin serving Metro Richmond Dec. 15. Megabus will offer three daily departures to Washington, D.C., Hampton, Philadelphia, Raleigh/Durham and Charlotte from its location on Main Street in Richmond, opposite the Amtrak Rail Station. Fees will begin at $1 and rise as the travel date nears.

Tour Examines Future of Broad Street Corridor

It was anything but an idle stroll as four busloads of Richmonders traveled Broad Street Oct. 24 on a route encompassing Willow Lawn on one end and Rocketts Landing on the other. The 3rd Annual River City Saunter drew 150 participants who explored city properties in all stages of revitalization.

Route 5 Corridor Study meeting planned May 31

The public will have an opportunity to learn about potential transportation solutions for the Route 5 corridor in Eastern Henrico and the City of Richmond during a public meeting May 31 in Richmond.

A number of regional and state entities have been studying the corridor between Laburnum Avenue and 7th Street downtown for months and will present conceptual alternatives during next week's open house, which will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at VDOT's Central Office Auditorium, 1221 E. Broad Street in Richmond.

Route 5 study underway

The future of the Route 5 corridor began to take shape last month at Varina High School.

There, about 200 people attended a public information meeting to offer their opinions about traffic problems and transportation solutions along the seven-mile stretch of Route 5 from 7th Street in the city to Laburnum Avenue in Henrico. They also offered suggestions about what types of pedestrian and bicycle paths and road expansion plans they would like to see as part of the eventual growth of the corridor.
