Crime Stoppers’ Crime of the Week: Oct. 16, 2017


This week, Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers is asking for the public to assist the Richmond Police Department in the identification of wayward artists that were using buildings as their canvas.

In the early morning hours of Sept. 14, four people were recorded on security cameras vandalizing multiple properties in the area of the 2500 blocks of West Main Street and Floyd Avenue. The suspects (pictured) were walking north on Robinson Street and spray painting the properties as they meandered along.

Cat that attacked Varina homeowner tests positive for rabies


OCT. 11, 11:15 A.M. – A cat that attacked a Varina resisdent Oct. 9 has tested positive for rabies, Henrico Police officials confirmed today. It is the county's fourth confirmed rabies case this year.

While the homeowner was entering the home in the 9000 block of Battlefield Park Road, a stray cat tried to run inside. When the homeowner attempted to scare the cat off the porch, the cat bit the homeowner on the hand and ran inside.

Henrico firefighters control blaze at Fareva plant


OCT. 9, 11:25 A.M. – Henrico firefighters extinguished an early-morning fire at the Fareva manufacturing facility on Darbytown Road in Varina today. None of the 25 employees in the facility at the time were injured.

Firefighters were called to the site, in the 2300 block of Darbytown Road, at about 4:20 a.m.

2 dead, 1 injured in Highland Springs shooting

Two people died in a weekend shooting in Highland Springs and a third was injured in the incident.

Henrico Police identified the two deceased victims as 31-year-old Lakisha L. Lewis and 32-year-old Devon L. Blowe, both of Richmond.

Henrico Police charge Chesterfield man in April murder of Henrico teen


Henrico Police have arrested and charged 20-year-old Roger Craig Brown III, of Chesterfield, with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a 16-year-old Henrico boy April 11 near Montrose Elementary School in Eastern Henrico.

Henrico Police seek robbery suspect


Henrico Police are seeking the public's assistance in identifying a man wanted for robbery.

On Aug. 10 at about 8 p.m., police responded to the 7500 block of Staples Mill Road after reports that a victim met a person who was planning to buy an electronic device from the victim. During the encounter, the suspect grabbed the device and, during a struggle, threatened the victim.

Crime Stoppers still needs your help with a quadruple shooting that left one woman dead.

The shooting occurred the evening of June 15 in the City’s North Side. Officers responded to Old Brook Road for a report of a fight in progress. At the same time, a call for shots fired was also received for the same location.

Henrico Police charge man with murdering woman in West End


AUG. 2, 11:10 A.M. – A 33-year-old Henrico man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the shooting death of a woman last night.

At about 11 p.m., Henrico Police arrested responded to a residence in the 1300 block of Westridge Road in the Farmington subdivision near Pinchbeck Elementary School, following reports of a shooting.

Positive rabies case reported in Varina

A skunk that encountered a dog in Varina July 30 has tested positive for rabies, according to Henrico Police officials.

Henrico Police Animal Protection responded to the 8200 block of Varina Road Sunday after a family dog cornered the skunk on the back deck of a residence.

Henrico man dies in motorcycle crash


A 42-year-old Henrico man died when the motorcycle he was driving crashed in the 200 block of East Richmond Road July 30 at about 5:25 p.m.

Jason Tyrone Carter was transported to a local hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Henrico Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and are looking for another vehicle believed to be involved.

Henrico woman charged with murder of father July 30


A 27-year-old Henrico woman has been charged with murdering her father inside a car in Northern Henrico July 30.

Mattie Therese Dixon is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 60-year-old Jerome Isiah Dixon, who was found suffering from stab wounds in a vehicle on Brook Road near Villa Park Drive at 10:12 a.m., according to Henrico Police.

Crime Stoppers’ Crime of the Week: July 24, 2017


Crime Stoppers needs your help to find the person who struck a pedestrian in the City of Richmond.

On July 21 at 12:52 a.m., a woman was crossing the street at Forest Hill and Sheila Lane when she was struck by a dark colored four-door sedan that was traveling eastbound on Forest Hill. She was transported by ambulance to Chippenham Hospital for minor injuries and released.

Goochland man arrested at RIC with gun


A Goochland County man was arrested at Richmond International Airport July 19 after Transportation Security Administration officers found a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the traveler’s carry-on bag.

A TSA officer detected the 9 mm caliber handgun inside the man’s carry-on bag as it entered the security checkpoint X-ray machine. The handgun was loaded with 12 bullets.

Kansas man struck, killed while crossing West Broad Street

A 54-year-old Kansas man was struck and killed by a car while attempting to cross West Broad Street near Bethlehem Road in the Near West End at about 10:30 p.m., July 19.

Julius A. McBride of Overland Park, Kansas, was struck by a car traveling east on West Broad Street.

Henrico Police warn citizens to ‘Take it, Lock it or Lose it’


Eastern parts of Henrico County have witnessed a recent increase in larceny from automobiles, so Henrico Police officials are spreading the word to encourage citizens to lock their vehicles.

Police are handing out and posting fliers and putting message boards in neighborhoods to educate residents.

There usually is a rise of larceny from automobiles during Christmas, spring and summer break, said Henrico Police Officer James Bupp.
