Milestones

Ann Vaughan was awarded Grassroots Professional of the Year by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) for her outstanding work to help make cancer a national priority. This annual award is given to an ACS CAN staff member whose collaborative efforts further the achievement of advocacy-related mission goals. Vaughan has worked for the American Cancer Society and ACS CAN for over 12 years. During this time, she has built a dynamic volunteer team in Virginia of over 14,000 volunteers. The award was presented on Sept. 10 in Washington, D.C., as part of the annual ACS CAN Leadership Summit and Lobby Day.

Catherine Obinna, of Glen Allen, graduated Sept. 10 from Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. Obinna received a doctor of nursing practice degree in nursing.

The University of Iowa recently welcomed students to the Class of 2019 including Henrico County residents Sydney Taylor and Sierra Burrell.

The Citadel recently welcomed students to the Class of 2021 including Henrico County resident Micah Cohen.

Colby College recently welcomed students to the Class of 2021 including Henrico County residents Adam Bowes, a graduate of Collegiate School, and Callison Nesbitt, a graduate of St. Catherine’s School.

Annie Tynes, a senior at Deep Run High School, has been voted to be a co-captain of the girls’ varsity volleyball team. Additionally, she has been accepted by and has committed to play volleyball next year for the Lynchburg College Hornets, class of 2022. She is the daughter of Nancy and Lin Tynes, of Glen Allen.

Troi Charity, of Henrico, recently graduated and earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University.

Sarah Elizabeth Horton Hutchinson, of Henrico, graduated Aug. 5 from the University of Alabama. She received a M.S. in Human Environ Sciences.
