Jane Christian Hall, of Henrico, graduated May 16 from Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Hall earned a bachelor of fine arts degree with a major in studio art and a minor in biology. She was a recipient of the Denison Alumni Award, the Jeanne Vail Program for the Arts Scholarship and the Keith Boone Anderson Ranch Award. Her work was displayed as part of Denison’s “Curiosity Ignites” art exhibition. Hall's senior project is titled “Body, Thread, and Space.”


Priya Kudva, of Henrico, graduated May 16 from UMass Lowell. Kudva received a master of science degree in information technology.


Jennifer Marie Scanlon, of Henrico, graduated May 8 from James Madison University. Scanlon received a bachelor of science degree in biology.


Gov. Terry McAuliffe recently appointed Carrie N.H. Humphrey, of Henrico, to the Advisory Board for the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. Humphrey is an American Sign Language/English interpreter. Gov. McAuliffe also appointed Regina M. Gilliam, LPN, of Sandston, to the Board of Nursing. Gilliam is employed by the Department of Veterans Affairs, McGuire VA Medical Center, in Richmond.

The Central Virginia Celtic Festival and Highland Games will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 28 and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Richmond Raceway Complex. Competitions include fiddle, harp, highland dance, piping, drumming and Gaelic song, as well as heavy athletics and hurling. The Fighting Jamesons, Albannach and others will perform. The Vendor Village will be selling jewelry, traditional Celtic food, pottery and kilts. Whisky tastings (additional fee) include instruction and an interactive session on the proper way to nose and taste single malt Scotch whisky. Children are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes and trick or treat with the various clans in attendance.
