Milestones


The following local students are among only 250 chosen as National Youth Correspondents for the 2016 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University: Grace Leffler, Tucker High School; Briana Schwam, Godwin High School; and Brandon Farbstein, Deep Run High School. They were chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in journalism and media studies. National Youth Correspondents participate in hands-on, experiential learning through decision-making simulations that challenge them to solve problems and explore the creative, practical, and ethical tensions inherent in journalism and media. The experiential portion of the program is complemented by speakers who are well-known leaders in the media community. The Washington Journalism and Media Conference will be held July 17-22.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe has announced an additional appointment to his Administration: Joe T. France, of Sandston, was named to the Virginia Board for Asbestos, Lead and Home Inspectors. France is president of France Environmental, Inc.

The following students from Henrico County were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2015 semester at Furman University: Meredith Berents, Alexandra Buff, Whitney Busch, James Roberts, Alexander Vogt and Victoria Wornom. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a minimum 3.4 grade point average.

The following cadets were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2015 semester at The Citadel: Charles Thoma and Alec Reddy, of Henrico; and Kyle Zachwieja, of Glen Allen. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a minimum 3.2 grade point average.

Jessica Jahn, of Glen Allen, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2015 semester at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average.

Junior Rachel Kaplan, of Henrico, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2015 semester at Kent State University in Ohio. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a minimum 3.4 grade point average.

Laurel Stout, of Glen Allen, and Emilie Gregory, of Henrico, were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2015 semester at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must earn a minimum 3.5 grade point average.

Megan Love, of Henrico, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2015 semester at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must earn a minimum 3.4 grade point average.

The following students from Henrico County were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2015 semester at Tufts University: Jane Blackmer, Emma Brown, Maura Folliard, Deborah Mayo, Amanda Savage and David Willett. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must a minimum 3.4 grade point average.

Jordan A. Steger, of Glen Allen, and Ned Ukrop, of Henrico, were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2015 semester at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must earn a 3.66 grade point average.

Sarah J. Shimer, of Henrico, was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2015 semester at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Shimer, a member of the class of 2016, attended The Steward School and is the daughter of Charles and Leslie Shimer. To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must earn a minimum 3.70 grade point average.

Emilie Gregory, of Henrico, graduated Dec. 11 from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Gregory received a bachelor of arts degree.
