Obituary – Lewis Coleman Morgan, Jr.

Lewis Coleman Morgan, Jr., went to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on March 10, 2015. Born on October 14, 1925, in Richmond, Va., he was a resident of Henrico, and worked as a lieutenant with the Richmond City Fire Bureau. Lewis was a WWII veteran serving from 1943 to 1946 aboard the USS Texas, a member of Patterson Avenue Baptist Church, Washington and Henry Lodge #344, A.F.&A.M. and ACCA Temple Shrine, as well as a Past President of Ceremonial Cast. He enjoyed his summers at Gwynn's Island. Lewis was predeceased by his first wife, Anne Fox Morgan; and his second wife, Pearl Morgan.

He is survived by his children, Joan M. Jones (Bill) and Lewis C. Morgan III (Mary); sister, Ann Rainey; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; as well as some faithful friends, Bob Blake, John Campbell and Ken Swope. Friends may visit with family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 13, at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Funeral service in the chapel will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, with interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, Fla. 33607.

Henrico County’s annual Harvest Festival will take place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Meadow Farm, 3400 Mountain Rd. The festival will feature many hands-on activities and demonstrations depicting typical homemaking and farming tasks of the era including candle dipping, apple pressing, scarecrow making, pumpkin decorating and more.
