Karen and her parents immigrated to this country in 1959 where she graduated from the Scarsdale, NY school system. She attended State University of New York at Fredonia and graduated in three years with honors. From there she, attended, Law School at the University of Buffalo, New York. Karen’s love for literature and children lead her to take a position at Clover Hill High School in Chesterfield. Later she transferred to Henrico High School as the 9th grade English teacher in the International Baccalaureate Program and completed her working career as the gifted enrichment teacher for Byrd Middle School. Her love for books, writing, and language were second only to her love for her students. In her 31 years of teaching she was always passionate about the educational and personal development of every student. Her classroom was always alive with the smells of English tea and chocolate, the sounds of laughter, advice, tears, hope and a quiet rocking chair for respite for the heavy hearted. Her secret passions included cooking, lazy beach days with family, friends, her dog Lulu, and sharing absurd gossip from tabloid magazines.

Karen enjoyed a fulfilled life and will be sadly missed. The family will receive friends on Thursday March 10, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad Street, Glen Allen where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday March 11, 2016.
