Obituary – Edna Anne Thomas

Edna Anne Thomas, age 104, a thirty-six year resident of Lakewood Manor departed this life Thursday April 30, 2015, after years of struggling with dementia that never released her. She was born in Caroline County on September 26, 1910, to the late Hyter Franklin and Sissie Nora Thomas-Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her two dearly loved brothers, Nathan Davis and George Embrey Thomas and a niece Dorothy T. Summa. She will live in the memory of her surviving family, half sister Frances T. Messick, nieces Joan T. Pyron, Jo Ann Messick, Sylvia L. Messick , nephews Kirk S. Messick and Thomas A. Messick, , great nephews Eric Summa, Shawn Summa and a faithful cousin, Shirley Thomas-Yeratt and a special friend Margaret Thompson.

Edna was 32 year retiree of Philip Morris. She was a faithful dedicated member of Derbyshire Baptist Church for 36 years. Edna was a loving, caring, cheerful, organized, and an “in-charge” lady throughout her life. Her inner-strengths are reflective of her relationship and dependence on God. She will be buried alongside her niece Dorothy in Forest Lawn Cemetery in a private ceremony. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday May 6, 2015 in the Simms Center at Lakewood Manor. Friends will be received 30 minutes prior to the service. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Derbyshire Baptist Church, 8800 Derbyshire Road, Richmond, Virginia 23229 where she was a faithful Steward.
