Obituary – Donald Wayne Coleman, Sr.

Donald Wayne Coleman, Sr., 68, of Glen Allen, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and friends, whose lives he had touched throughout his life, Friday, August 29, 2014. He was born and raised in Northern Virginia and upon graduating from Mt. Vernon High School, earned a degree in Accounting from RPI (Virginia Commonwealth University).

Don was one of five children born to the late Robert and Lois Coleman. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Darlene; four beloved children, Michele Coleman Keeney, Dawn Coleman, Stacey C. Samitt (Jeff) and Donnie Coleman Jr. (Allyson); nine treasured grandchildren, Austin, Maddy, Pryce, John, Jada, Ella, Charlie, Jacob and Nora, with his 10th on the way; four devoted brothers, Bob (Cathi), Gary (Janice), Mike (Kathy) and Steve (Toni); as well as countless other friends and family, who were blessed to know him. Don worked and owned his own accounting firm, which for over 40 years, has remained a family business.

He was the past president of both the Chamberlayne Little League and the Benedictine Athletic Association, which are just two of many examples of his commitment to youth and his community. Some of Don's favorite pastimes included coaching and watching sports, traveling where most destinations included a casino, laughing and being with family and friends. Don touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity and maintained his trademark sense of humor, all the way to the end.

The family will receive friends on Monday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St. Glen Allen, Va. 23060, with a Rosary Service beginning at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12 noon, Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at St. Anthony's Maronite Catholic Church on Sadler Rd. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests all donations to be sent to the Jimmy V. Foundation for Cancer Research, 106 Towerview Ct. Cary, N.C. 27513.
