Obituary – Susan Ann Monson Smith

Susan Ann Monson Smith, of Glen Allen, passed away June 22, 2017. She was born April 7th 1955 in Fargo, ND to Walter and Bonnie Monson. Sue attended Fargo South High, and after was employed at the Bell Telephone Company in Fargo, later working for the Army Recruiting Headquarters in Fargo where she met Tim Smith her husband of 36 years. During his military service they moved to Aschaffenberg, Germany where they lived for 3 years before settling in Virginia.Sue loved to cook from a very early age. Her baking/cooking skills were extraordinary and enjoyed by all; "Sue's balls", AKA chocolate oatmeal cookies, were in demand from everyone who knew her. Her sewing and knitting skills were unsurpassed with hundreds of unique knitted hats that were enjoyed by all who were lucky enough to receive one. She is survived by her husband Tim, daughter Nicole (Jason) Gamse of Baltimore, MD, son Casey (Colleen) Smith of Amissville, VA, 2 stepsons, Chris (Tammy) Smith of Crowley, LA, and Travis Smith of Auburn, GA, her Mother Bonnie (Dennis) Monson of Lake Park, MN, brother Tommy (Rachel) Monson of Fargo, ND, and Sister Janet (Ron) Hanson of Centennial, CO. Sue had nine grandsons and five granddaughters who she cherished. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Monson, her brother Terry Monson, and her stepdaughter, Melissa Smith. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the GBS/CIDP Foundation at https://www.GBS-CIDP.org Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
