Obituary – Rebecca Barber “Beckie” Woody

Rebecca Barber "Beckie" Woody, 71, passed away at home on June 19, 2017, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 38 years, Bernard Carl Woody. She is also survived by her sister, M. Beth Barber; her son, Andrew J. Patterson (Angela); her daughter, Catherine Moonbeam Woody Graves (Adam); and granddaughter, Greenlee; her stepson, B. Christopher Woody; and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, James C. Barber and Ann J. Barber. Beckie was an elementary school teacher her entire career of over 40 years, and made a positive impact on the lives of countless students. A graduate of Westhampton College, she began her teaching career in Richmond City in the late 1960s (Ginter Park). She taught kindergarten at St. Catherine's School in the late 1970s and early 1980s. She joined Henrico County Public Schools in the mid-1980s and worked as a PRIME teacher (Pemberton and Longdale) and as a kindergarten teacher (Pemberton and River's Edge). She retired from teaching in 2011. Beckie was a beautiful, compassionate and selfless woman who always put the needs of others ahead of her own. She fiercely loved her husband and children and was the best wife and mother imaginable. She never met a stranger and always had a shoulder to cry on or advice to give. Her loss will be felt forever. The family wishes to thank AseraCare for their extraordinary hospice care. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad St., Glen Allen, Va. 23060, where funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 23, 2017. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scottish Rite Childhood Language Center, 4202 Hermitage Rd., Richmond, Va. 23227. Entombment Washington Memorial Park.
