Henrico to hold Oct. 19 workshop on Route 5 Corridor/Marion Hill Study


The Henrico County Planning Department will hold a workshop Thursday, Oct. 19 for residents and other members of the public to provide additional input for a study of the Route 5 corridor and Marion Hill areas.

The workshop will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at John Rolfe Middle School, 6901 Messer Road. The meeting will include an overview of community input received so far and an explanation of how it is reflected in the study’s draft goals and objectives.

Section of Hungary Road closing overnight Oct. 1-5

The westbound lanes of Hungary Road between Hungary Spring and Staples Mill roads will be closed during overnight hours from Sunday, Oct. 1 through Thursday, Oct. 5 for the installation of a gas line.

Gas prices likely to remain elevated at least one more week


Gas prices locally are expected to remain elevated for at least one more week in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic officials.

And the uncertainty of the next massive storm – Hurricane Irma – also could have an impact in the days and weeks ahead.

In the Richmond region, the average cost of one gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline Tuesday was $2.49 – up 15 cents per gallon from last Friday and 33 cents per gallon from last month.

NASCAR races this weekend to impact local traffic


Traffic patterns will temporarily be altered on roads around Richmond Raceway this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 8-9, to accommodate fans attending the NASCAR races.

Motorists are advised to expect heavy traffic and delays in the area on both days, especially on Saturday before and after the race from 8 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Henrico Police officers will direct motorists before and after the races.

Portion of Galaxie Road reopens following restoration

A section of Galaxie Road between Alycia and Lafayette avenues reopened Sept. 1 following more than two months of work to address storm damage.

The approximate 700-foot section, near Holladay Elementary School, had been closed since June 16, when heavy rains severely damaged the road surface and culverts.

AAA: Gas prices in Virginia could jump 15-25 cents per gallon in Harvey aftermath


Gas prices in Virginia could jump as much as 15 to 25 cents per gallon – or more – within 10 days as the result of Hurricane Harvey's impact in Texas, AAA Mid-Atlantic officials are warning.

Locally, the average cost of a gallon of regular unleaded gas has risen two cents to $2.16 since Monday, according to AAA.

Gas prices expected to rise because of Harvey’s impact

Gasoline prices are expected to rise slightly this week as the impact of Hurricane Harvey extends beyond the Texas cities it has battered with wind and historic amounts rain.

The average cost of a gallon of unleaded gasoline in the Richmond region Aug. 27 was $2.12, according to AAA Mid-Atlantic – a penny lower than the previous week but three cents lower than the state average and 24 cents lower than the national average.
