State honors EMS officials this week

There were nearly 1.5 million emergency medical services calls and 4,063 incidents per day in Virginia just last year.

This week, May 21-27, declared as National EMS week by Gov. Terry McAuliffe, recognizes the more than 34,000 EMS personnel and 631 agencies in the state and commends their efforts and commitment to Commonwealth citizens.

Crime Stoppers’ Crime of the Week - April 10, 2017


A double shooting on Richmond’s Southside left two men dead and police searching for answers.

The crime occurred on Saturday April 8, around 7:30 p.m. Police received a call for a person down inside an apartment in the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike. RPD units arrived on scene and located two victims who had been shot. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

One of the victims has been identified as Terrell D. Thomas, 20, of the 4000 Block of Midlothian Turnpike.

Henrico Police seek robbery suspect


Henrico County Police Division is seeking the public's assistance in identifying the subject responsible for a robbery on April 4.

At approximately 6:25 p.m. April 4, Henrico Police responded to a retail business in the 1900 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike for a commercial robbery. A black male entered the business, presented a note to the victim, and displayed a handgun. The victim complied with the suspect, and the suspect fled the store. The suspect was last seen walking on Cool Lane away from Mechanicsville Turnpike.

Henrico woman arrested after investigation into fires


A 44-year old Glen Allen woman has been arrested in connection with two separate fires that occurred in a Holiday Inn Express on International Center Drive March 30.

Bhamini Naginbhai Patel was arrested by members of the Henrico Fire Marshal’s office, and has been charged with two counts of arson.

Henrico firefighters save dog from West End house fire


Henrico firefighters rescued a dog from a West End house fire April 5.

Firefighters were dispatched to the report of a fire in the 8000 block of River Road, near Forest Avenue, that afternoon.

Virginia State Police warns of IRS phone cloning scam


The Virginia State Police have recently received calls from two Virginians and one New Yorker about IRS-impersonation telephone calls linked to a Virginia State Police Area 43 Office in Chatham. The scammers have cloned the state police office’s main number – (434) 432-7287 – as a tactic to help convince a caller that they are legitimate. This is a common ploy utilized by scammers as the annual IRS filing season comes to a close.

The Internal Revenue Service will never call to demand immediate payment using a specific payment method such as a prepaid debit card, gift card or wire transfer. Generally, the IRS will first mail you a bill if you owe any taxes.

Henrico Police investigating Varina death

Henrico Police are investigating the death of a man in a Varina home in the early morning hours of April 5.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., police responded to a residence in 2600 block of Kingsland Pointe Drive for a suspicious situation. Arriving officers located 23-year-old David Lee Coles III, who was pronounced dead at the scene. One other person was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Dog rescued, no one injured in Northside townhouse fire


MAR. 27, 11 A.M. – No one was injured by a townhouse fire that occurred early Monday morning in the 200 block of Knightsmanor Court, near the intersection of Azalea Avenue and Richmond-Henrico Turnpike.

The first Henrico Fire officials were on scene in less than four minutes and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the two-story townhouse. Firefighters from the first-arriving fire engine and ladder truck made their way to the townhome involved in fire and searched for victims through high heat and reduced visibility.

Henrico Police seek Northside robbery suspect


MAR. 21, 9:30 A.M. – Henrico Police are seeking the man who robbed a Wells Fargo Bank on Brook Road Monday evening.

At approximately 5 p.m. March 20, police responded to the bank, in the 8100 block of Brook Road, after reports that a white male had entered the business and presented a note demanding money.
