Fire engulfs Eastern Henrico home

JULY 13, 5 P.M. – Six people were hospitalized following a fire that engulfed a home in Eastern Henrico Thursday morning.

At about 9:25 a.m., Henrico Fire officials received several calls about the fire in the 2500 block of Charles City Road, near Richmond International Airport.

Units arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from the older two-story home with heavy smoke and fire coming from the front. They also found several patients down in the front yard and immediately began providing them care. At the same time, additional fire units began to fight the fire in order to conduct a search on the home.

The five victims in the front yard (two elderly occupants of the home, their son and two neighbors who helped rescue the couple) were taken to VCU Medical Center for evaluation. One victim was suffering from non-life-threatening but serious injuries. A firefighter also was taken to a local hospital later with a minor heat-related issue.

It took firefighters an hour to bring the blaze under control. The cause and origin of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal's Office.
