The Boutique Awards recognize independent boutique retail owners in the fashion industry across the United States, Canada, Australia and the U.K. Categories include Storefront Boutique of the Year, Online Boutique of the Year, Children’s Boutique of the Year, Mobile Boutique of the Year, and State or Country Overall Boutique of the Year. West End apartment fire injures 1


SEPT. 25, 10:30 A.M. – A West End apartment fire injured one person Sunday afternoon.

The fire broke out in the third floor of the Chase Gayton apartment complex in the 10 block of Chase Gayton Drive, near the intersection of Gaskins Road and Quioccasin Road, at about 1:20 p.m. Sept. 24.

Crime Stoppers’ Crime of the Week: Sept. 25, 2017


Crime stoppers needs your help to solve a double homicide that occurred in the City of Richmond in June of this year.

On Wednesday, June 7, at approximately 9:53 p.m., Richmond police officers responded to several calls for random gunfire in the 3600 block of Decatur Street. They arrived and found the victims, two males, Christian Singleton and Ketron Wells. The victims were outside on the ground lying near each other. Both victims had received fatal gunshot wounds.

Selecting a live Christmas tree
One of the favorite family traditions of the holidays is selecting a live Christmas tree and putting it up at home.

“To me, it’s the fragrance,” said Henrico Extension Agent Lisa Sanderson. “When you put a live tree in your home, it just smells like the holidays.”

Live Christmas trees can be purchased from a number of different sources including nurseries and garden centers and by mail-order, but the most popular are retail lots and choose-and-cut farms.

Henrico Doctors’ Hospital celebrates renovation

Officials at Henrico Doctors' Hospital Forest Campus celebrated the completion of a five-year, $100 million expansion project with a Nov. 16 ribbon-cutting ceremony that officially opened the final segment of the project. Cutting the ribbon (left to right) were Robert Levitt, MD, chairman, Henrico Doctors’ Hospital medical staff; Margaret G. Lewis, president, HCA Capital Division; Pat Farrell, CEO, Henrico Doctors’ Hospital; and E. Claiborne Irby, Jr, MD, chairman, Henrico Doctors’ Hospital Board of Trustees.

VDOT 6-year program input sought

Virginia Secretary of Transportation Sean T. Connaughton and local members of the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) will host a meeting in Richmond Nov. 30 for the public to provide input on the development of the Six-Year Improvement Program for fiscal years 2013-2018. The program includes multimodal highway, rail and public transportation initiatives.

The meeting will be held at the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) central office auditorium, 1221 E. Broad
Street in Richmond, beginning at 6 p.m.
