‘Hockey For Hope’ cancer-fighting game scheduled June 18

Richmond Hockey Fights Cancer (RHFC) will host its annual 'Hockey for Hope' game tomorrow from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at SkateNation Plus in Short Pump. The charity event matches RHFC and the Virginia Hockey All-Stars (a (a combination team including players from the Henrico Firefighters, Sperry Marine Hockey
Club of Charlottesville and members of other local charity organizations).

All team members have been personally affected by cancer in some way. Now in its seventh year, Hockey For Hope raises funds to fight cancer and to promote prevention and awareness. RHFC donates 100 percent of the proceeds from the event to cancer-related charities, such as NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer, the American Cancer Society and Ride for Kids (part of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation), among others.

RHFC organizers hope to exceed the $18,000 they raised at last year’s event.

The game will be followed by an auction for autographed team jerseys and NHL memorabilia, including a Mario Lemieux signed puck and an autographed stick from the Buffalo Sabers.

General admission tickets ($5) are available at the door, and $20 VIP tickets may be purchased from any team or RHFC board member. VIP tickets give exclusive access to an upstairs party room, sponsored by Capital Ale House. VIP tickets will include a sandwich and two drinks. A player reception will be held in the party room after the game.
