Local Olympian visits Volleyball Club

Olympic gold medalist Reid Priddy visited the Richmond Volleyball Club Sept. 10 for a meet-and-greet session with admiring members, who waited in long lines to have their autographs and pictures taken with the star player on the men’s national volleyball team. Priddy and the men’s team won gold in China in 2008 but failed to medal in this year’s London Olympics.

Among the fans who flocked to RVC to visit with Priddy were members of the Glen Allen High School girls volleyball team, above (left to right – Emma Gathel, Kirsten Kennedy, Emily Riggin, Erin Hedrick, Shea Yeager, Courtney Wright, Amanda Garrett) and Ken and Christine Lu, with five-week-old Sloane.

Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.

The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way. Its walk-in wine “humidor” in plain view from the bar offers more than 85 wines by the glass ($6-$65) and about 250 by the bottle ($28 and up), with some emphasis on Italian wines.
