Ridgetop Rebels going to USTA JTT Nationals

The Ridgetop Rebels, based out of Ridgetop Recreation Center in the west end, won the 18U intermediate level flight at the USTA’s Jr. Team Tennis (JTT) Section Championship held in College Park, Md. Aug. 10-12.

Team members include, front row (left to right): Maddie Scarvey (James River), Olivia Wilson (Freeman), Trent Singleton (Freeman), Liza Wayland (Freeman) and Vivien Fergusson (Collegiate); and back row (left to right): Pat Anderson (coach), Chris Ray (Godwin), Emily Sheppard (Deep Run), Ben Brody (James River) and Scott Lancaster (Godwin).

The Rebels will represent Virginia at the JTT National Championships to be held Oct. 25-28 in Cayce, S.C. The Richmond area fall JTT season will begin Sept. 23. For more information, call League Coordinator Shannon Scarvey at 387-5927.

The Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond will present banjoist Noam Pikelny at 7:30 p.m. in Camp Concert Hall, Booker Hall of Music. Pikelny is a founding member of Punch Brothers, a string ensemble. In September of 2010, he was awarded the first annual Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass.
