Didn't get a ticket to the sold-out Varina-Highland Springs football game Friday night? You can still watch the game online, thanks to Henrico County Public Schools. HCPS-TV will stream the game live through its website, http://www.henrico.k12.va.us Varin.a enters the game 8-1, while Highland Springs is 7-2. A Henrico County boy will be back in the national spotlight for the second year in a row next month at the Major League Baseball All-Star game.
Ten-year-old Nick Biddison of Glen Allen is once again a national finalist in the Aquafina Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit and Run Competition. For the second year in a row, Biddison is one of three boys who will compete for the national title in the 9-10 year-old age division. > Read more.

Tickets for the fall races at Richmond International Raceway went on sale today. RIR will host the Virginia 529 College Savings 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Friday, Sept. 9, followed Sept. 10 by the “One Last Race to Make The Chase” NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. > Read more.

Meadow Farm hosted its "Lady's Fashion Show" June 1, showcasing the fashions of seven generations of Meadow Farm women – including four generations of Sheppard women who lived there between 1810 and 1920. > Read more.
This year's James River Regional Cleanup will take place this year in September, instead of its normal date in June, the James River Advisory Council announced this week.
Since its start years ago, the cleanup has been held on the second Saturday in June. But planners received support for a date change and decided this year to push the date back to Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cleanup will include numerous sites between Lynchburg and Newport News, including Osborne Park and Boat Landing in Henrico County. > Read more.

JJ’s Grille offers comfort, entertainment
The dance party (mostly for Baby Boomers) was on during a recent Saturday night at JJ’s Grille on Staples Mill Road in Glen Allen. An hour before the start of the live music at 8 p.m., it was difficult to get in and sit down at a table to have a bite before the party.
When the five members of the featured band “The English Channel” arrived they were greeted like friends and people started to drift towards the small area near the window front of the grill that later served as a dance floor. And when the band started the first of its 1960s and ‘70s pop tunes, the dance floor was filled in an eye blink. It stayed like this for the whole set – two hours of Beatles, Rolling Stones and other sing-along and dance-along tunes pleasantly presented with skill and perfect volume for the now-small space. > Read more.
