RIR offers public track time

Richmond International Raceway is offering local residents a number of opportunities to take their personal vehicles onto the racetrack for five laps, in exchange for a $20 donation to RIR Cares, the track's charitable account that assists a number of local nonprofit organizations. RIR assisted nonprofits in raising more than $300,000 through donations and volunteer opportunities in 2011.

The RIR Cares Track Laps program will host eight "open track" opportunities (one each month) beginning Wednesday, March 7, at noon. Subsequent dates are: Wednesday, Apr. 4 at 12 p.m.; Wednesday, May 9 at 5 p.m.; Sunday, June 10 at 12 p.m.; Wednesday, July 11 at 5 p.m.; Wednesday, Aug. 15 at 12 p.m.; Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 5 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 14 at 12 p.m. > Read more.
