The regional tournament featured the top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers from each of the Northeast, Piedmont, Shenandoah and South Carolina divisions.

Collegiate graduate’s film opens in Richmond

Westhampton Theatre will host a private screening of the film “Beasts of the Southern Wild” on Saturday, July 28 at 1 p.m. The award-winning film is produced by Richmond native Michael Gottwald, a 2002 graduate of the Collegiate School.

The film was shot in South Louisiana and tells the story of six year-old Hushpuppy who lives in a forgotten but defiant bayou community, cut off from the rest of the world.

Gottwald is a founding member of the New Orleans-based Court 13 Film Collective, which produced “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” He served as executive producer on Court 13’s “Glory at Sea” in 2007, a short film made possible by the support of a handful of generous Richmond residents and was screened at the Byrd Theatre in May 2008. > Read more.
