Tickets to NASCAR's September race weekend at Richmond International Raceway will go on sale to the general public Friday, May 23.
The weekend will feature the Federated Auto Parts 400 on Saturday, Sept. 6, which sets the field for the Sprint Cup Series' Chase for the Sprint Cup, locking in the drivers who areeligible for the season title. > Read more.

Henrico-based Arena Racing USA, in partnership with USO Hampton Roads Central Virginia (USOHRCV), earlier this year launched "Tickets for Troops," a program to connect corporate and individual ticket sponsors with area military channels. USOHRCV is not the only recipient of the “Tickets for Troops” program; Arena Racing USA donates sponsored tickets to organizations such as: Fisher House Richmond, Fort Lee MWR (Morale, Welfare, Recreation), McGuire Veteran Affairs Medical Center, Air Force Training Squadron, and we continue to build relationships with other military-focused organizations and bases. > Read more.

Didn't get a ticket to the sold-out Varina-Highland Springs football game Friday night? You can still watch the game online, thanks to Henrico County Public Schools. HCPS-TV will stream the game live through its website, http://www.henrico.k12.va.us Varin.a enters the game 8-1, while Highland Springs is 7-2. NOVA of Virginia, a Henrico-based swim program, recently won the Virginia Swimming Long Course age group championship for a 13th consecutive time.
NOVA sent 110 swimmers to the Christiansburg, Va., competition, where they broke six Virginia records and seven meet records. > Read more.

A number of Henrico County high school football coaches and athletic officials attended the Washington Redskins High School Coaches Clinic July 31 at the Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center in Richmond. The clinic, presented by Sheltering Arms Physical Rehabilitation Centers, was hosted by the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, Redskins Executive Vice President/General Manager Bruce Allen, Head Coach Mike Shanahan and former Redskins linebacker LaVar Arrington. > Read more.

Virginia Home for Boys and Girls will host its first "trunk-or-treat" Halloween tailgating event on its Henrico campus on Sunday, Oct. 28, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The event will invite children to fetch Halloween candy from the backs of vehicles gathered in the campus parking lot. Dozens of cars and SUVs will sport fun decorations and themes to entertain children, such as movies, sports and camping. > Read more.

The CAT Theatre celebrated its 50th anniversary last month, as patrons, actors and crew members gathered at Burkwood Swim and Racquet Club in Mechanicsville for a fund-raising auction that included memories, tributes and live entertainment.
“CAT Theatre is a wonderful theatre tradition here in Richmond that blends old friends and new,” said Board President H. Lynn Smith, “And we have an exciting season lined up to begin our next 50 years.” > Read more.
Chuy’s proves it’s possible to have many locations but retain unique feel
If you’ve driven through Short Pump in the past six months, there’s not a chance you’ve missed Chuy’s, the big and bold Tex-Mex restaurant in West Broad Village. From the outside, the brightly painted 8,000 square foot building gives a foretaste of what’s inside: eclectic decor, a fun menu, and from my experience, a lot of noise. The restaurant is a chain of 40 in the nation, but it’s the first of its kind in Virginia.
We were fortunate to arrive at 6 p.m. on a Wednesday, the perfect time for happy hour. From 4-7 p.m. Monday through Friday, there are drink specials, but what’s really special is the free nacho bar served out of a giant car hood. > Read more.
