Physicians and staff at Henrico Doctors' Hospital were among the participants in a ribbon-cutting celebration and reception Jan. 13 as the HDH Forest Campus prepared to open its new emergency room and cardiac center. The new 25,000-square-foot ER is two and a half times bigger than the existing ER, and features curved corridors, enhanced waiting rooms, and state-of-the-art electronic monitoring. In addition, the new ambulance driveway can hold six ambulances, and the hospital's helicopter landing pad has been relocated closer to the ER entrance. Part of a five-year, $100 million project that includes the completed Forest Medical Plaza office building, Center for Surgical Innovation and Intra-Operative MRI suite, the new unit was designed using input from nurses, doctors, and emergency medical providers.
