![]() Samuel George Johnson, a graduate of Highland Springs High School, and John Donald Lloyd, a graduate of Deep Run High School, have enrolled as Patrick Henry Scholars with the class of 2016 at Hampden-Sydney College. The Patrick Henry Scholarship is named to honor the American patriot and early trustee of Hampden-Sydney. Recipients of the Patrick Henry Scholarship are recognized for leadership and academic achievement. *** Gov. Bob McDonnell recently appointed the following local residents to Virginia boards and commissions: Board of Dentistry – Dr. Charles E. Gaskins, III, of Richmond, periodontist and president of Gaskins and Associates; and Melanie C. Swain, of Richmond, dental hygienist with Westhampton Dentistry; Board of Directors of the Small Business Financing Authority – Monica Rao, of Henrico, self-employed; State Executive Council for At-Risk Youth and Families – Patricia S. O’Bannon, of Henrico, member of the Board of Supervisors, Tuckahoe District; and Greg Peters, of Richmond, president and CEO of United Methodist Family Services. *** Percy Andrews and Blair Farinholt, of Richmond, have been awarded scholarships at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. The Denison Alumni Award recognizes academic achievement, leadership and personal merit. Both students are members of the class of 2016. *** Julie Sjostrom, of Glen Allen, has been named to the dean’s list for the summer 2012 semester at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a grade point average between 3.5 and 3.899. Sjostrom is majoring in international affairs and modern foreign language. |
