Air Force Tech. Sgt. Jerry L. Pleasant Jr., a fighter duty technician with the 682nd Air Support Operations Squadron, Pope Field, N.C., graduated from the Noncommissioned Officer Academy at the I.G. Brown Training and Education Center, McGhee Tyson ANGB, Tenn. Pleasant is the son of Jerry and Laverne Pleasant, of Richmond. The NCO Academy is a six-week course that prepares service members in the grade of E-6 to manage and lead their units. Students study curriculum in the areas of the profession of arms, leadership, and communication to build the skills they need for their current rank and to prepare for future responsibilities.

The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way. Its walk-in wine “humidor” in plain view from the bar offers more than 85 wines by the glass ($6-$65) and about 250 by the bottle ($28 and up), with some emphasis on Italian wines.
