![]() Cheyenne Hines, a student at Glen Allen High School, has been nominated to represent Virginia as a National Youth Correspondent to the 2013 Washington Journalism and Media Conference at George Mason University. Hines joins a select group of 250 students from across the country to participate in an intensive week-long study of journalism and media. Hines was chosen based on academic accomplishments and a demonstrated interest and excellence in journalism and media studies. The conference will be held July 7-12. *** Elizabeth Crenshaw and William Thompson, of Richmond, recently were named to the honor roll for the fall 2012 term at Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va. To be eligible for the honor roll, students must have a minimum 3.75 grade point average. The following W&L students were named to the dean’s list for the fall 2012 term: Paige Gay and Peter Partee, of Richmond; and Michael Unholz, of Glen Allen. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a GPA of 3.4 or higher. *** Dylan Nowak, of Glen Allen, recently was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester at Roger Williams University in Bristol, R.I. To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must earn a grade point average of 3.4 or higher. Nowak is majoring in psychology. *** The Tri Club Woman’s Club contributed 4,777 volunteer hours, $4,966 of in-kind contributions (helmet liners, lap blankets and food) and $5,111 in monetary donations in 2012. This was accomplished in 88 projects. Recipients include McGuire Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital, Blue Star Mothers, Ronald McDonald House, Ridge Elementary School, Crestview Elementary School, Prevent Child Abuse Virginia, HOBY Foundation, Virginia Breast Cancer Foundation, Camp Comfort Zone, Lambs Basket, Autism Awareness, Operation Christmas Child, World Food Day, Basic Needs Organization, Plan USA, UNICEF, Operation Smile, USO Project, American Red Cross and Safe Harbor Shelter. |

Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.
The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump
Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare

Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.
Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.
