Currently at the Hermitage Technical Center, instructors are preparing to finish up the curriculum for the year and get students in the mindset for the upcoming school year.
HTC had several state SkillsUSA first-place winners in April. These students will compete nationally in Kansas City, Mo., in June.
The Crime Scene Investigation team of Dzenita Jasarevic, Kellie Jordan and Lyndsey Morris took first place at the state level.
February was a huge month for John Rolfe Middle School with numerous student events.
In the middle of February, students had an assembly for the John Rolfe PTA Spring fundraiser. We had a fundraiser exactly like this back in December. Students gathered in the auditorium to listen to our guest speaker. The fundraiser is to sell various magazines about jewelry, cooking, games and even dessert.
Hermitage Technical Center’s Tech Ethics Society (TES), an HTC student service organization, recently has completed candy sales to raise money for the medals and t-shirts that are given to its members upon completion of their technical center class.
In other news: HTC is preparing to participate in the 2013 Internship Fair for Henrico County Public Schools, to be held at Glen Allen High School. The event is supported by the Career & Technical Education (CTE) Business Council, and offers students the opportunity to learn about internships that can help them make informed career decisions.
At Henrico High School, there’s a little tradition that all the students love to hate called a clean sweep.
In order to deter students from being tardy to class, there will be a clean sweep at the start of the period sporadically throughout the week. When a clean sweep happens, Mrs. Fleming comes over the P.A. system and announces proudly for all citizens of HHS, “Teachers, please lock your doors. Do not admit students into your class unless they have a pass. Students, if you do not have a pass, please report to the South Cafeteria. This is a clean sweep!”
After a second successful year, the Glen Allen Silent Night basketball game has been solidified as a tradition that will continue for years to come. During the Silent Night game the crowd is completely silent until the team scores its tenth basket – then the crowd erupts.
A huge decision was made recently by all of the students at DRHS regarding the numerous classes they will be taking next year. While for most students it feels that the year has just begun, they had to begin considering what they want to take for their next year of school. It was an arduous process because we know that the classes we choose will affect our performance and ability to do well in the year ahead.
John Rolfe Middle School has numerous events happening in February. On Feb. 7, students and parents had their rising seventh- and eighth-grade curriculum fair. All current sixth- and seventh-grade families were invited to come and learn about the course offerings for 2013-2014.
Many of the students are working on getting back into the flow of waking up early to their alarms and working hard since their return to school after winter break.
Hermitage Technical Center was happy to welcome students back to their second home and tech center family.
As students begin to crowd the hallways again, teachers are scurrying to turn in drafts of their mid-term exams for administrative approval.
The students of Henrico High School have mixed feelings about the outdoor campus.
Getting outside between classes gives students a chance to clear their minds and get some fresh air. As one student said, “Experiencing nature helps you refresh.”
Here, in the height of winter, the outdoor campus of Henrico High School is bittersweet, but despite the bitter winter winds, there are countless sweet memories of weather on the HHS walkways.
