The Friends of Chesterfield’s Riverfront (FoCR) has merged with Capital Region Land Conservancy (CRLC), which will carry on the work of both organizations by stewarding the lands previously protected by FoCR. Initial discussions about a merger began in late 2013. Legal due diligence was conducted in early 2014 and the merger decision was formally made in late March 2014. Troutman Sanders LLP provided pro bono legal services for due diligence and document preparation for the merger. As part of the merger, conservation easements held by FoCR will be assigned to CRLC. The restrictions, land use limitations, and reserved rights listed in each easement will remain unchanged.

Two additional tenants signed leases in June to occupy a combined 31,000 square feet within Deep Run III, 9954 Mayland Drive in Henrico. This 348,174 square foot class-A, six-story building was previously the headquarters facility for Circuit City. The newest tenants - Acision, LLC (16,472 square feet) and Appendix R Solutions (14,729 square feet) - will both occupy space on the third floor. Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer represented all parties in these two recent transactions. Approximately 206,724 square feet remains available within the building.

The Rite Aid Foundation has announced a $5,000 grant to the University of Richmond's chapter of Camp Kesem, a national network of college student-run summer camps for children with a parent who has or had cancer. Named after the Hebrew word for "magic," Camp Kesem is designed to give children ages 6-16 a fun and activity filled week with the extra support and attention they need. The Rite Aid Foundation's grant will help fund camper scholarships for children who couldn't otherwise afford to attend. The Rite Aid Foundation previously awarded $5,000 to Camp Kesem in 2012.

Dr. Barry Wein, most recently of Bon Secours Patterson Avenue Family Practice, will join PartnerMD’s Richmond office in September 2013. An open house will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. Dr. Wein will be in attendance, as well as several other PartnerMD physicians. The open house will feature interactive, hands-on stations, including: blood pressure checks, dermatological screening, body composition analysis and more. Attendees may tour the office, speak with Dr. Wein and discuss membership options with PartnerMD’s membership team.

NOVA of Virginia Aquatics (NOVA) has named Jonathan Kaplan to the NOVA coaching staff. He will focus primarily on the senior levels swimmers (Senior Gold, Senior Silver and Senior Development Gold) but will also work occasionally, as all NOVA coaches do, with other levels of the program. Kaplan joins NOVA after a highly successful seven-year tenure as head coach of the Panama City Swim Team (PCST) in Panama City, Fla. Kaplan will join NOVA in late August 2013.

HHHunt has promoted Steve Brant to vice president of finance and accounting with responsibility for HHHunt’s Communities Division and golf courses. He has been with HHHunt for seven years. Brant holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Virginia Tech and an MBA from Averett University. HHHunt has also promoted Ann Kelly to assistant vice president of finance and accounting with responsibility for HHHunt’s homebuilding operations. She rejoined HHHunt more than a year ago after working previously from 2001-2008. She holds a degree in international economics and history from Virginia Tech.

Grace Chapman, horticulture director at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, has been named to the Visiting Committee at Longwood Gardens, Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. As part of a six-year term, Chapman joins a select group of international experts across multiple disciplines who convene every 18-months to formally review key aspects of the world-renown Longwood Gardens, providing guidance and recommendations. Chapman is a graduate of the Longwood Graduate Program with a master of science in public horticulture.

HCA Virginia’s vice president of Women’s and Children’s Services, Toni Rice, will serve as the chair of the 2013 Virginia March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Awards Program and Gala. The Nurse of the Year Awards is a statewide program that recognizes exceptional nurses, creates awareness of professional excellence, and promotes the future of the nursing profession. The awards will be presented at a gala on Saturday, Nov. 9 at the Omni Hotel in Richmond.

Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer has announced that Essex Bank, the banking subsidiary of Community Bankers Trust Corporation, has leased 27,487 square feet of office and storage space in Deep Run III, 9954 Mayland Dr. This 348,174 square foot class A, six-story building was previously the headquarters for Circuit City. Essex Bank will relocate from its current headquarters in Innsbrook. It will occupy 25,375 square feet on the entry level floor (2nd) and a 2,112 square foot portion of the lower floor (1st) as conditioned loan document storage. The new headquarters will house approximately 90 employees with space for growth to accommodate 120 employees in the future. Additionally, the bank will feature a 24-hour walk up ATM adjacent to the building’s main entrance.
