Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer recently announced that Rebecca Steel has joined the Residential Property Services Group as portfolio manager in its Richmond office. Steel is a native of Roanoke and has lived in the Richmond area for 12 years. Her portfolio will consist of multi-family properties in Richmond and Norfolk. She has more than 20 years of property management experience. Before joining Thalhimer, Steel was with Plus Management, overseeing a portfolio of commercial buildings as well as art studios and workspaces along with conventional and tax credit communities. Prior to that, she worked in managerial roles with United Dominion Realty Trust, Landmark Property Services and served as vice president of operations for Summit Realty Group. Her experience encompasses HUD based, LIHTC as well as conventional communities to include new construction, historical rehab projects along with the re-positioning of distressed communities to compete within the current market. Steel has a bachelor’s degree in business management and marketing from UC Irvine as well as a degree in early childhood development.

CarLotz, a Richmond-based used vehicle consignment business serving the sale-by-owner and corporate fleet vehicle market, recently announced the closing of a $5-million round of equity capital that will aid the company’s expansion efforts. CarLotz currently operates in Henrico, Midlothian and Chesapeake. The capital was raised from the company’s existing investors as well as funds from a small handful of investors and executives with experience in national multi-site retail expansion, real estate, and the broader automotive industry. CarLotz is actively seeking new retail center locations throughout Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland and Georgia in the near term with plans to expand further up and down the east coast over the next several years.

Adam Jones, managing partner of the LongHorn Steakhouse in Glen Allen, recently attained Darden Restaurants’ Diamond Club status. Each year, managing partners throughout North America who demonstrate outstanding results by showing strong and inspiring leadership while also achieving top financial performance in the company’s previous fiscal year are recognized. This year, Jones joins a group of 20 managing partners selected from the more than 460 LongHorn Steakhouse restaurants in North America. The “Fiske Guide to Colleges,” a leading college guidebook, has selected the University of Richmond for its 2015 edition of more than 300 “best and most interesting schools” in the United States, Canada and Great Britain. Richmond made two special lists this year for having “unusual strength” in business and international studies. Compiled by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, the guidebook selects colleges based primarily on academic quality. It includes information about each college’s academics, social life, student body, financial aid, campus setting, housing, food and extracurricular activities.

Virginia Credit Union will be honored in the annual CIO100 list in CIO Magazine, published by the International Data Group. Given to organizations for excellence in information technology, the award will be presented to Chris Saneda, the credit union’s senior vice president and chief information officer. Virginia Credit Union was recognized for an innovative system it developed to analyze data in real time and enable staff to identify and prevent external fraud attempts. The CIO 100 list is available online and will be published in CIO Magazine’s August 1 issue. Virginia Credit Union was named to the CIO100 list in 2010.

Henrico-based Free Agents Marketing has been named one of three finalists in the Small Business category of the 2014 IMPACT Awards by the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce. Two winners will be announced – one in the Small Business category and one in the Large Business category – at a banquet Nov. 12. The IMPACT Awards have honored regional businesses since 1988. Finalists are selected by a committee composed of volunteers from Chamber member companies.

Innsbrook based Lingerfelt CommonWealth Partners has announced the acquisition of the 242-room Richmond Marriott West hotel in Glen Allen. CommonWealth Lodging, an affiliate of Lingerfelt CommonWealth Partners, has entered into a franchise agreement with Marriott International to manage the full-service hotel and oversee a comprehensive, multi-million dollar renovation. New features will include Marriott’s Greatroom lobby concept and re-invented guest rooms. The hotel will remain open during the planned renovations, which are scheduled to begin in the fall and be complete by summer 2015. The executive team at CommonWealth Lodging will welcome input on the scope of the renovation from key customers of Richmond Marriott West including Capital One, Markel, Altria, Wells Fargo and the University of Richmond, among others.

The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond has announced the appointment of Julie Adams-Buchanan as its new executive director. For the past six years, Adams-Buchanan has served as the Center’s coordinator of volunteer services, interviewing prospective clients and overseeing the hundreds of volunteers who provide transportation and other help for seniors. In addition to her experience with The Shepherd’s Center, Adams-Buchanan has coordinated services in the business office of a senior living facility and has served as an office manager for a family construction firm. She becomes the fifth executive director of the Shepherd’s Center, as it celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. She succeeds Linda Frank who served in the position for ten years before moving to Radford to pursue other interests.
