Gumenick Properties moved its headquarters this month to Libbie Mill-Midtown, a new 80-acre, mixed-use community being developed by the company. Libbie Mill-Midtown is under construction between West Broad Street and Staples Mill Road near Libbie Avenue. The community is the largest revitalization project in the history of Henrico County. Gumenick Properties will become the second organization operating from office spaces at Libbie Mill-Midtown. The first group to open an office there was the Richmond Memorial Health Foundation, a regional, private health legacy foundation. The foundation moved in during autumn 2014. When complete, the community is projected to have 994 homes for sale and 1,096 apartments. Libbie Mill-Midtown also will have a total of approximately 160,000 square feet of retail space. The neighborhood is estimated to take approximately 10 years to complete.

HCA Virginia’s Parham Doctors’ Hospital has announced that Roger Giordano, M.D., will serve as the new medical director for the Inpatient Rehabilitation Center, effective immediately. Under Giordano’s direction, the program will provide comprehensive medical rehabilitation to adults with physical impairment and disability secondary due to disease, dysfunction or trauma. Giordano brings over 25 years of experience specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He is active in the community as a speaker for multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s disease education and specializes in stroke, amputation, spinal cord, trauma, orthopedics, pain management, neurological and general rehabilitation medicine. He received his bachelor of arts from Colgate University and his doctorate from Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia.

CarLotz, a Richmond-based used vehicle consignment business serving the sale-by-owner and corporate fleet vehicle market, recently announced the closing of a $5-million round of equity capital that will aid the company’s expansion efforts. CarLotz currently operates in Henrico, Midlothian and Chesapeake. The capital was raised from the company’s existing investors as well as funds from a small handful of investors and executives with experience in national multi-site retail expansion, real estate, and the broader automotive industry. CarLotz is actively seeking new retail center locations throughout Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland and Georgia in the near term with plans to expand further up and down the east coast over the next several years.

The “Fiske Guide to Colleges,” a leading college guidebook, has selected the University of Richmond for its 2015 edition of more than 300 “best and most interesting schools” in the United States, Canada and Great Britain. Richmond made two special lists this year for having “unusual strength” in business and international studies. Compiled by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, the guidebook selects colleges based primarily on academic quality. It includes information about each college’s academics, social life, student body, financial aid, campus setting, housing, food and extracurricular activities.
