Draper Aden Associates announced today that it received the Gold Shovel Standard certification for excavation, which is a safety certification and rating system for companies that perform, subcontract, or oversee excavation work. DAA is currently the only consulting engineering firm in Virginia granted this best-in-class certification. Gold Shovel Standard is a nonprofit organization that fills an industry gap by providing third-party confirmation of baseline Safety Management Systems for the protection of buried assets, and fair and transparent metrics for damage prevention. According to the organization, companies that achieve this certification have policies and procedures related to excavation safety which, when followed, make a certified company unlikely to cause damage to buried infrastructure. More specifically, the company’s policies and procedures have been audited to meet the specific requirements of the Gold Shovel Standard program.
