Road improvement project begins at Richmond National Battlefield Park

Improvements to more than eight miles of roads and parking areas throughout the Richmond National Battlefield Park's battlefield units are beginning this week. The $2.2 million project will involve repaving and upgrading roadways that serve around 200,000 visitors to the park per year, as well as residential areas in Henrico and Hanover counties. A Richmond area contractor, Lane Construction, is slated to do the work, which will support more than 50 jobs in the region.

Flaunting names like “Scarlett,” “Jezzabelle,” “Showgirl Pearl,” and “Waynonna Juggs,” contestants sashayed down the aisle, bumping and grinding to various musical themes -- and stopping at nothing to coax another dollar in tips out of onlookers. |
Varina town meeting April 18 to feature General Assembly representatives

Varina residents will have the opportunity to meet their representatives in the Virginia General Assembly at the next town meeting of Varina District Supervisor Jim Donati. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, April 18 at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Road.

Rolfe principal wins REB Award

Andrew Armstrong, principal at Rolfe Middle School, has been named the R.E.B. Distinguished Educational Leadership Award winner for Henrico County. Armstrong is one of four principals in the metro Richmond area selected to receive the annual award. Jodie Brinkmann, principal of Echo Lake Elementary, was named runner-up.

The Henrico County Board of Supervisors will hold public hearings on the county’s 2011 magisterial district reapportionment plan at its regularly scheduled meetings at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 12 and Tuesday, April 26 in the Government Center Board Room, 4301 E. Parham Road.
