The personal injury law firm of Allen, Allen, Allen & Allen is seeking nominations for its annual Allen & Allen Hometown Heroes award, which was formed in 2010 to honor the firm’s centennial anniversary and recognizes the positive impact of local individuals who give back to their community on a daily basis.

Martin's Food Markets will make a donation of more than $24,000 to the Henrico Christmas Mother program, as a result of contributions provided by its customers Nov. 2-Dec. 6.
The grocery store chain collected a total of $100,177 from customers at its Metro Richmond and Williamsburg stores during the period. The Henrico Christmas Mother will receive $24,549.33. Other programs receiving donations are the Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Christmas Mother ($28,000), the Hanover Christmas Mother ($13,120), the Salvation Army Central Virginia Command ($26,000) and the Salvation Army of Williamsburg ($8,505).
Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer recently announced that Rebecca Steel has joined the Residential Property Services Group as portfolio manager in its Richmond office. Steel is a native of Roanoke and has lived in the Richmond area for 12 years. Her portfolio will consist of multi-family properties in Richmond and Norfolk. She has more than 20 years of property management experience. Before joining Thalhimer, Steel was with Plus Management, overseeing a portfolio of commercial buildings as well as art studios and workspaces along with conventional and tax credit communities. Prior to that, she worked in managerial roles with United Dominion Realty Trust, Landmark Property Services and served as vice president of operations for Summit Realty Group. Her experience encompasses HUD based, LIHTC as well as conventional communities to include new construction, historical rehab projects along with the re-positioning of distressed communities to compete within the current market. Steel has a bachelor’s degree in business management and marketing from UC Irvine as well as a degree in early childhood development.
Bon Secours Virginia recently announced that it will promote St. Mary's Hospital CEO Toni R. Ardabell to chief executive officer of Bon Secours Richmond Health System, effective Jan. 1. In her new role, Ardabell will be responsible for all operations in Central Virginia, with the exception of the Medical Group and HealthSource, which will remain directly reporting to Bernard. Ardabell will continue to serve as CEO of St. Mary’s Hospital. She also will assume the role with the Bon Secours Richmond Board as the CEO of Bon Secours Richmond.
Ardabell joined Bon Secours in 2009 as the chief executive officer of Bon Secours St. Mary’s Hospital. In 2012 she was given additional responsibility for Women’s, Pediatrics, Retail and the Senior Services service lines. Most recently, in 2014, her responsibilities grew to include chief executive officer of St. Francis Medical Center.
HCA Virginia’s Henrico Doctors’ Hospitals is hosting a group of 16 Chinese physicians through Dec. 19. The visiting physicians will be shadowing physicians at Henrico Doctors’ to learn American methodology and practice in medicine.
The group, sent by the Youjiang Medical University for Nationalities, is in Henrico as part of an exchange program run by the National Association of African American Studies & Affiliates (NAAAS & Affiliates).
“Healthcare is continuing to expand globally bringing international cultures closer together for the same cause,” said Anthony Spensieri, M.D., chief medical officer for Henrico Doctors’ Hospitals.

Cohen Equities, a New York City-based commercial real estate firm, recently acquired six retail properties in the United States, including The Shoppes at Twin Oaks in Henrico County. The Shoppes at Twin Oaks is a 39,117-square-foot shopping center at Westerre Parkway and Cox Road. Currently, 12,264 square feet of space in the center is available for rent. Cohen Equities has purchased 26 properties in 13 U.S. states since its founding in 2012.

Willow Lawn shopping center will offer free shuttle trolley service between Church Hill and the center on four days during the next two weeks.
The shuttle will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 28 and Sunday, Nov. 30, as well as Friday, Dec. 5 and Sunday, Dec. 7 as part of "Green Ride RVA."
The service stems from a national sustainability transportation program funded by the Ford Motor Company, in partnership with eight universities, including VCU in Richmond.

Freda Thornton, a local McDonald’s franchisee who owns five Henrico and Richmond locations, recently received the Ronald Award, the highest regional award that a franchisee can receive. The award is given to just one percent of McDonald's owners nationwide and is designed to honor a franchisee for outstanding service to the McDonald’s brand and local community.
