Henrico real estate staying strong despite low inventory

The Henrico real estate market has been relatively strong for the past month, despite a lower amount of inventory, according to data from Long and Foster Real Estate.

In the past month, 408 homes have been sold in Henrico, which is 2 percent less than were sold in the same timeframe in 2016.

Last year the median sale prices for Henrico homes was $219,975, whereas this month it's up to $232,500, a 6 percent increase. Which means half of the homes in Henrico are priced above $232,500 and half are priced below.

‘Selling to the Commonwealth’ seminar for small businesses planned

City of Richmond Minority Business Development (MBD) will sponsor a free seminar, "Selling to the Commonwealth," March 17 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Tuckahoe Library, 1901 Starling Rd. The seminar will help small business owners and entrepreneurs position their firms to capitalize on the market for Commonwealth of Virginia goods and services. Topics will include "Navigating Virginia's e-Procurement Portal (eVA)," "Why is a Business Plan Important to Me?" and "The Value of SWaM/Micro Business Certification."

High-end Escape Nails & Day Spa opens


Escape Nails and Day Spa opened its doors in February in West Broad Marketplace, bringing a full service spa experience, including 122 types of manicures and pedicures. Some manicures and pedicures include complimentary neck and shoulder massages; the salon is also equipped for full body massages. Complimentary soda, hot tea, and coffee are offered with services, and the business has submitted paperwork seeking an ABC license so that add adult beverages can be added to the list.

Henrico-based Colortree Group, Inc. LLC has announced the appointment of Terry Manis as CFO. Manis will be heavily involved in all aspects of strategic initiatives including budgeting and forecasting. He also will maintain a strong relationship with Sterling National Bank and ensure the responsibility of the accounting department. Manis has more than 25 years of global/manufacturing experience, most recently as Vice President of Finance and Accounting for Quibca Holdings, a large global manufacturer headquartered in Italy. Manis oversaw various business functions related to financial planning, budgeting, cash management, distribution, tax, and all other facets of accounting. Manis, who began his career as operations accountant at McKesson HBOC, received his BBA from Marshall University in 1989 and his MBA from Averett University in 1999. Colortree Group, Inc. is a full-service manufacturer of envelope products and print services for the direct mail industry.

McGeorge Toyota donates $10,000 to Make-A-Wish


Bob Farlow, general manager of McGeorge Toyota, presented a check for $10,000 to Make-A-Wish® Greater Virginia President Sheri Lambert Feb. 28 at the dealership on West Broad Street.

The donation, made as part of the Random Acts of McGeorge program, will help grant wishes to local children battling life-threatening medical condition, providing hope and motivation not only to wish kids but also to volunteers, medical professionals, and communities.

Applications for Leadership Metro Richmond Class of 2018 now open

Applications for the Leadership Metro Richmond (LMR) flagship program Leadership Quest are now open at http://www.lmronline.org until May 1. Community leaders from Ashland, Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, Powhatan and the City of Richmond are encouraged to apply.

All interested candidates are encouraged to attend a recruitment reception March 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Markel Corporation, 4501 Highwoods Parkway in Glen Allen. The reception will give candidates the opportunity to meet current LMR members and learn more about the organization.

Stingem Management Group LLC has acquired Boathouse Capital’s stake in Henrico-based Colortree Group, Inc. James “Pat” Patterson, president/CEO of Colortree, is now the sole owner of the company. This transaction closed December 29, 2016. Boathouse Capital originally invested debt and equity to facilitate the management buyout of Colortree in 2011. Over the course of Boathouse's five-year investment, Colortree expanded its operations facility and equipment while improving its leadership team with the hiring of CFO, Terry Manis, and William Mack, VP of Human Resources. By expanding their facility and consolidating under one roof, Colortree can run much more efficiently and improve cost-effectiveness. Colortree Group, Inc. is a full-service manufacturer of envelope products and print services for the direct mail industry.

Washington Memorial Park maintenance scheduled in March

Cemeteries that are part of the Dignity Memorial network in Richmond – including Washington Memorial Park in Sandston – will conduct regularly scheduled facility maintenance Mar. 1-15 at the cemetery grounds. All temporary items such as flowers in and around the vase and mementos on or near gravesites, niches and crypts will be removed.

Families with loved ones interred at Washington Memorial Park (on Memorial Drive in Sandston) are asked to remove items that they desire to keep prior to Mar. 1.
