Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving?

In preparation for Thanksgiving, the Citizen asked several Henrico County elementary school classes to answer questions about the holiday. Their responses appear here. (Special thanks are due to Henrico County Public Schools and the teachers and administrators at each school for their assistance in this effort.)
Why do we celebrate Thanksgiving? Ms. Dillon’s kindergarten class, Seven Pines Elementary School Because to celebrate the people that brought food. – Abigail To eat ham and turkey. – Jordan Because it’s Thanksgiving and we eat and drink milk. – Aviyana Because we eat and drink and watch “Nick Jr” on TV. – Connor Because they like to eat food – potatoes and corn. – Matthew ‘Cause it’s fun to eat mashed potatoes and have cheesecake. – Aqiila Because we go to people’s houses and eat dinner like turkeys. – Samantha Because it’s nice to share food and be good to other people and stuff like that. – Roger Because we celebrate turkeys! – Kaleigh Because we eat turkey and lots of food. Then, you get ice cream. – Xavier You can bring corn and share it. – Daylee Because it’s fall and we eat turkeys and chicken wings. – Juan Because if people don’t have food, we can share with them. – Roddrey To give stuff away to other people and eat turkey. – Shane Because it’s special and we cook cookies and roast beef. – Destiny We go around the table and eat bread, nuts, and turkey. – Amanda Because we want to have Thanksgiving! And to eat turkey and lasagna. – Chesni So we can get together and be friends. – Tyasia |
