VHBG to host kids’ triathlon
![]() To introduce local youngsters to triathlons, Virginia Home for Boys and Girls (VHBG) is partnering with Endorphin Fitness to provide a new youth triathlon event for ages 5 -14. The VHBG Youth Triathlon will take place in Henrico County on Saturday, Aug. 25, at the VHBG campus at 8716 West Broad Street in Richmond, from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. “Triathlon recreational teams are an excellent way for kids to become fit and find out what sports they like if they are interested in pursuing an Olympic dream,” said Michael Harlow, founder of Endorphin Fitness. “The power of fitness can change lives, and we’re excited to offer this new event for the community and for all the kids at VHBG.” The event will benefit VHBG, a nonprofit organization focusing on child and family services. The agency provides residential group homes, an alternative school and intensive community-based services to support children and families in their home and school. Since 1846, more than 20,000 children have called VHBG home. “Part of our mission here at VHBG is to help our kids build permanent healthy relationships in the community, and this event is just one more way we’re empowering our youth to succeed,” said Claiborne Mason, VHBG President. “Our pool and layout on campus is the perfect place for a triathlon,” added Mason. “And, Michael and his team have a passion for sharing their love of endurance athletics with others. It’s a great opportunity for our kids to try a new sport and engage in community events.” The event is open to beginners and Harlow is also offering an optional five-day camp, Aug. 20 - 24, to prepare youth for a triathlon where they will learn the basics of the competition. For details or to register for the VHBG Youth Triathlon, visit http://www.vhbg.org or call Amanda Bazzi at 270-6566, ext. 145. The registration fee is $45-$55 and the training camp is $95-$115. Each participant will receive an event t-shirt, water and post-race food with their registration. |
