Varina meetings to be held Oct. 1, 4, 11

Varina District Supervisor Tyrone E. Nelson will hold several Community Conversations meetings in October to discuss with residents the state of Henrico County and other topics.
The meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1 at Elko Middle School, 5901 Elko Rd.; 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Henrico Theatre, 305 E. Nine Mile Rd.; and at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11 at Varina High School, 7053 Messer Rd. The meeting at the Henrico Theatre will allow residents to meet Dr. Dana N. Bost, the new principal at Highland Springs High School. The session at Varina High will include tours featuring the school’s renovations from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. At each meeting, county officials will discuss the state of Henrico, voting requirements for the Nov. 6 general election and Henrico’s efforts to work with small, women-owned and minority-owned businesses. Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.
The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump
Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare

Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.
Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.
