Henrico County Public Schools recently announced that J.R. Tucker High School has been authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to offer the IB Diploma Program.
Tucker is the 36th school in Virginia and the 2,299th school in the world to offer the program. “An IB Diploma education is acknowledged to be outstanding by prestigious colleges and universities worldwide. Opportunities for university acceptance and scholarships for IB Diploma candidates at Tucker will be greatly enhanced,” said Nancy LaVier, the IB educational specialist for HCPS. “I am so very proud of the administration, faculty, and the IB Diploma Candidate students of the class of 2014. All exhibit the pioneering spirit that has and will continue to make our nation great.” The IB Diploma Program is designed as an academically challenging and balanced program of education that prepares students for success at university and life beyond. The program has gained recognition and respect from the world's leading universities. In addition, the program has core requirements that are included to broaden the educational experience and challenge students to apply their knowledge and understanding. |

Henrico Junior 4-H camp registration open

For parents looking to keep their kids outside and away from the video games this summer, the Virginia Cooperative Extension is still accepting registrations for the 2013 Henrico Junior 4-H Camp.
The camp will be held June 17-23, and is open to boys and girls ages 9-13. A total of 10 spaces for boys and 27 spaces for girls remain available, and registration is open until May 24. The cost is $230, which includes lodging, meals, programs, instructional materials and charter bus transportation. > Read more.

Mother and son open new restaurant in Sandston

Ironfish delights with a variety of tasty catches
I was overjoyed to head back for another meal at Ironfish by Pescados, considered the Best New Restaurant in 2011 by both the Richmond Times Dispatch and Richmond Magazine. I agree whole-heartedly with their ratings. Since I first visited the restaurant for my birthday in January, I was waiting for the perfect special occasion to return. I couldn’t wait another year, obviously.

Veteran restaurateur set to open in Short Pump
Tran’s Pho 1 Grill will serve Vietnamese fare
Paul Tran, along with his wife Ellen will open up Pho 1 Grill, a Vietnamese restaurant, in June in the Towne Center West Shopping Center.
Tran has been serving up Vietnamese food since the mid-’80s, his first being Que Huong on Rigsby Road. He also owned Mr. Chan’s on Horsepen Road and Saigon Gourmet on Hull Street Road. > Read more.
