Thornton, Bagby elected board chairmen

The Henrico Board of Supervisors earlier this month selected Fairfield District Supervisor Frank Thornton as its chairman for 2011 and Brookland District Supervisor Dick Glover as vice chairman, while the Henrico School Board voted Fairfield District member Lamont Bagby as its chairman and Three Chopt District member Diana Winston vice chair.

Thornton, who was elected to the Board of Supervisors in 1995 and re-elected three times since, will be serving his third term as chairman. Bagby, first elected to the School Board in 2007, is serving his first term as chairman.

Thornton has served on national and statewide governmental organizations, including as chairman of the Virginia Municipal League’s (VML) Human Development and Education policy committee and as a member of the VML Legislative committee, the Virginia Association of Counties’ (VACo) Education steering committee, the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Human Services and Education steering committee, and Gov. Timothy M. Kaine’s Urban Policy Task Force.

Bagby regularly presents the School Board on the Federal Programs Advisory Council, the Mathematics/Science Center Foundation, at Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce meetings and at Henrico Police Athletic League functions, among many others.
