The youth ambassadors of the Henrico County Too Smart 2 Start Coalition will present a forum Saturday, April 21 to educate youth and parents on the dangers of alcohol consumption by teenagers.

The “Prevention of Underage Drinking” forum will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fairfield Middle School, 5121 Nine Mile Rd. Demonstrations will begin at 9:30 a.m. with goggles that simulate the effects of alcohol consumption on reaction time and on depth and distance perception.

The forum is free and open to the public, with a light breakfast included. Registration is not required. The forum will provide an overview of laws on teenage driving, a workshop for adults titled “Power of Parents — It’s Your Influence,” and testimonials from speakers about life after experiences with underage drinking. Also planned are performances by the St. Paul’s Baptist Church B.O.M.B. S.Q.U.A.D. step team and prize giveaways.

The forum is sponsored by the Prevention Services unit of Henrico Area Mental Health & Developmental Services, the Upsilon Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and Richmond Lodge #45 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. The Henrico Too Smart 2 Start Coalition works to strengthen the community by using education and advocacy to reduce at-risk behaviors.
