Swarm of spellers

The Alice Haynes Room in the commons at University of Richmond was buzzing March 20 as The Henrico Education Foundation held its First Annual Corporate Spelling Bee. A dozen companies and groups turned out teams of three spellers to participate in the bee, which raised funds for HEF's mission of supporting Henrico County Public Schools students, teachers and staff by promoting innovative educational opportunities, recognizing achievements and developing community collaborations. The spelling team (top picture, left to right) of Lindsay Newport, Brad Armstrong, and Patti Fox of The Martin Agency topped the field, and a group from Luck Companies (pictured, inset) won the 'Buzzy Bee' award for the best all-around spirit.

Coventry Healthcare won the Audience Favorite award. Among other corporate teams participating in the event were the Children's Museum of Richmond, Strategy Café, Capital One, Cisco Systems, O’Brien Associates, Allianz Global Assistance, Bon Secours Richmond Health Systems, the Henrico Business Council of the Greater Richmond Chamber, and Dominion Resources.
