Superintendent Russo to host community meetings
Henrico County Public Schools Superintendent Patrick Russo will host a series of five public meetings with Henrico citizens – one in each magisterial district – during the coming weeks.
The meetings will provide an opportunity for citizens to ask questions and engage in an open dialogue with Russo about school-related issues.
The meetings will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the following times and locations:
• Oct. 24, Fairfield Area Library, 1001 N. Laburnum Avenue, Henrico;
• Oct. 29, Tuckahoe Area Library, 1901 Starling Drive, Henrico;
• Nov. 7, North Park Branch Library, 8508 Franconia Road, Henrico;
• Nov. 19, Confederate Hills Recreation Center, 302 Lee Avenue, Highland Springs;
• Nov. 28, Twin Hickory Area Library, 5001 Twin Hickory Road, Glen Allen.
The Children's Clothing Closet at Highland Springs United Methodist Church will be open Saturday, Aug. 27 and Tuesday, Aug. 30 to provide free new or nearly new children's clothing for families in need, prior to the start of the school year. The Clothing Closet will be open from 10 a.m. to noon both days. The church is located at 22 North Holly Avenue. > Read more.

It’s a great weekend to get outside! The Pocahontas Chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society is offering two events this weekend. Accompany the group to find and document native plants present and blooming in Echo Lake Park on Saturday or take a “Sunday Stroll” at Dorey Park to observe the seasonal changes taking place. Other outdoor events this weekend include the final summer concert at West Broad Village and “Fridays on the Patio” at James River Cellars Winery in Glen Allen.
