Students share Thanksgiving thoughts
In preparation for Thanksgiving, the Citizen asked several Henrico County elementary school classes to answer questions about the holiday. Their responses appear here. (Special thanks are due to Henrico County Public Schools and the teachers and administrators at each school for their assistance in this effort.)
How would you make your favorite Thanksgiving food?
Mrs. Lassiter's first-grade class, Lakeside Elementary School
I would buy a turkey and bake it for an hour at 20 degrees.

I would buy a turkey and cook it in the oven for 5 minutes. I would turn the oven to "Hot."

I would put a ham in the oven and cook it for 9 minutes at 4 degrees.

I would put a turkey in the oven for about 30 minutes at 50 degrees, take it out, cut it open and put stuffing in it. Then I would put a ham in the oven for the same amount of time and do the same thing, but maybe put mashed potatoes inside.

I would put the turkey in the oven, turn it to 26 degrees and cook it for a couple hours.

I would buy macaroni and cheese from the store and ask my brother to help me cook it. I would cook it in the oven for like 30 seconds at 5 degrees to make it soft.

My favorite Thanksgiving food is turkey. I would buy my turkey at the store and put it in the oven at 2 degrees for 3 hours.
My favorite Thanksgiving food is turkey. I would help my mom cook it. First put it in a little hot oven for 30 minutes. Put sauce on the turkey when it comes out of the oven.
My favorite food to eat on Thanksgiving is bread. I would cut it out and I would eat it with jelly.
My favorite Thanksgiving food is chocolate cake. I would put the chocolate thing in with some water, oil and eggs. Use the little mixer thing. Then put it in the oven and wait for a little minute for the oven to warm up. Bake the cake in the oven.
My favorite thing to eat on Thanksgiving is turkey. I would roast it on the thing that goes round and round. I would eat mashed potatoes with it.
My favorite Thanksgiving food is turkey. I would put it in the oven at 12 degrees for 30 minutes. I like to eat it with bread.
My favorite Thanksgiving food is chocolate chip cookies. Take dough from the refrigerator and cut it and put it in the oven. Add chocolate chips and sprinkles and then eat it.
My favorite thing to eat on Thanksgiving is chocolate cake. I would put the chocolate mix in the bowl. Add milk, eggs and water and mix it with the mixer. I would put it in the oven.
My favorite Thanksgiving food is chocolate chip cookies. Put the cookies in the stove for 15 minutes.
My favorite Thanksgiving food is pumpkin pie. Cut the top of the pumpkin. Put it in a pan and cook it for 30 seconds. Then I would put it in the oven and bake it. I would eat it with a cherry on top.
My favorite Thanksgiving food is bread. Put it in the oven to cook for 4 minutes. Take it out of the oven and add butter.
I would get some chickens, open it up and get the chicken out of it. I would cook it in the microwave for 2 minutes. I would eat it with some barbecue sauce.
My favorite food to eat on Thanksgiving is brown cookies. Put square things on a plate, cook it in the stove for 8 hours.
My favorite Thanksgiving food is turkey. I would get a turkey from Food Lion. I would fry it in a pan for 6 minutes. I would eat it with some chicken.
My favorite food at Thanksgiving is mashed potatoes. Put potatoes in a pan and put it in the oven for 6 minutes. Put them on a plate and eat them.
My favorite food at Thanksgiving is chocolate chip cookies. I would get cookie dough, stir it up and put it inside the oven for 13 minutes.

My favorite food is turkey. To make it I would put it in the oven and then I would take it out and pat seasoning on it.
My favorite food is brisket and gravy. I would get it from the grocery story and put it in the oven, cook it and cut it. I put the
gravy on and eat it.
I like mash potatoes and gravy. I would buy it and then I would put it in the oven and serve it and eat it. I hope my family would enjoy it!
My favorite Thanksgiving food is grilled cheese. I would get two pieces of bread and get cheese and put it in the middle of it.

I like turkey. I would buy one and cook it. Then I would put it on a plate, then I would call my friends to come to my house.

The food I like is hot dogs and sometimes I eat applesauce. I would get apples and them cook them, then you get a bowl and you put it in there.
My favorite food is mashed potatoes. To make it I would get a box of mash potatoes and get some water and get some butter and put the mash potatoes in a bowl and microwave them and then put in the butter and you are done!

I like raviolis. I would put cheese in it then I would put the outside of the raviolis on the cheese.
My favorite Thanksgiving food is mash potatoes. I would get water and then put potatoes in it and get the masher and mash it up. Then I have mashed potatoes!
I like chicken for Thanksgiving. To make it I would get it from the store, bake it for 10 minutes and eat it!
To make chocolate cake, I would use dough and then put it in the oven and you take it out of the oven and eat it.
I like turkey. I would put it in the tray and cook it.
My favorite food is cookies! I would roll out the dough then get the cookie cutters and cut it out! Then put it in the oven. Let it cook a while. Take it out, they are cookies!
I would get some yams and put them in the oven. Sometimes I like brown sugar on them!
To make dumplings, I would get some dough and you roll it up and then roll it into a triangle then you put it in the oven. Chicken and vegetables is in the inside.
To make pumpkin pie, I would get a pie pan and pie crust and pumpkin. I would put the pie crust in the pan but not in the middle. And then put the pumpkin in and then put the pie crust on top and put it in the oven.
My favorite Thanksgiving food is chicken. You get chicken nuggets and a plate and put it in the oven!
My favorite food is green beans. I would get a big pot and frozen green beans and put butter in the pot and cook them.
My favorite Thanksgiving food is turkey and gravy. I would get the turkey and put the sauce on it and bake it. The dessert is a big chocolate cake.
Dr. Even Alexander, a New York Times best-selling author who has been featured on Oprah and Dr. Oz, was in town last week to promote his June 27 talk, "Proof of Heaven," at Glen Allen High School.
Alexander (pictured, at right, while Unity of Bon Air church member Harry Simmons interviews him) has written about what he considers to be his journey through the afterlife.

The Innsbrook Rotary Club, which is celebrating its 25th year in 2015, has completed a number of volunteer projects this year and raised thousands of dollars for various organizations through three events.
The club's annual rose sale, benefit for youth live auction and Virginia Fire Games competition, combined with individual and corporate donations, have raised nearly $70,000 – money that the club contributes back to the community.
FeedMore is the beneficiary of the club's 25th anniversary project, which provides refrigerated trailers to be used for the distribution of food throughout Central Virginia. > Read more.
