Students excel in ‘Reflections’

Hermitage High School senior Helen Rai (above) displays her artwork, which will advance to the national PTA Reflections Program competition in Washington, D.C. Rai and Short Pump Elementary School second-grader Madeleine Wang (pictured inset at right with School Board members Beverly Cocke, Diana Winston and Henrico Superintendent Patrick Russo), were the two Henrico students whose art advanced to the national competition.

The theme of this year's competition was "Diversity Means..."

Other county students received awards in the contest at the state competition. They are: Caroline Armstrong (Participation), Short Pump Middle School; Samuel Hurst (Award of Excellence) Longan Elementary School; Trisha Kocherlakota (Participation), Jackson Davis Elementary School, Catherine Liu (Award of Merit) Short Pump Middle School, Madison Lowerre (Award of Excellence), Glen Allen High School, Kathryn Rainer (Award of Excellence), Deep Run High School, Joshua Sargent (Participation), Springfield Park ES School; Jonathan Singh (Participation), Jackson Davis Elementary School; Olivia Wilkinson (Award of Excellence), Nuckols Farm Elementary School.

Spirited Art Richmond held a painting class May 5 for Hanover Habitat for Humanity families to paint their own artwork as a final touch for their new homes. Among first-time homeowners painting The Klimt Circle tree (which doubles as a ‘family tree’) were (left to right) Janet Payne, Gwen Stockman of Hanover Habitat and Payne’s daughter, Ashley Payne. Popular Short Pump spot offers upscale comfort, flavors
The Wine Loft opened in West Broad Village in January 2010, offering a full bar with wine, beer, spirits and a kitchen with tapas-style snacks. It offers a seasonal patio area along Whittall Way. Its walk-in wine “humidor” in plain view from the bar offers more than 85 wines by the glass ($6-$65) and about 250 by the bottle ($28 and up), with some emphasis on Italian wines.
