‘Stock Market Game’ workshop for teachers planned
|
Teachers in grades 4-12 who are seeking a way to make personal finance or math more exciting are invited to attend a free workshop about the 'Stock Market Game' Sept. 13 at VCU.
The fall session of the Stock Market Game begins Sept. 24, with competition continuing through Nov. 30. Students participate in teams of as many as four students, with each team investing a virtual $100,000 for 10 weeks. The investment simulation uses real-time prices and provides an opportunity for students to practice math skills while learning about investment. Through a grant from Scott and Stringfellow, team fees are reduced to $10 per team. The national program has been used by Virginia teachers for more than 30 years. Research conducted by Learning Point Associates showed that participation in the Stock Market Game program improved student math scores on standardized tests and improved student investor knowledge. The free workshop, offered by the VCU Center for Economic Education, will take place at the VCU School of Business, Snead Hall, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Register online at http://www.vcee.org/workshop/view/773 For .more information, email Suzanne Gallagher at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). |
