St. Gertrude’s opens Henrico fields

St. Gertrude H.S. dedicated its new Outdoor Athletic Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Nov. 11, attended by former Congressman Tom Bliley, Frank Thornton of the Henrico County Board of Supervisors, and Sr. Cecilia Dwyer, Prioress of the Benedictine Sisters of Virginia. The 16-acre complex off Park Central Drive in northern Henrico features a turf field for soccer, field hockey and lacrosse and space for a softball diamond and tennis courts.

Among the parents, students, alumnae and friends of the school celebrating immediately following the ribbon-cutting were, from left, Rick Kastelberg, member of the Board of Visitors and Capital Campaign; Missy Ackerman, SGHS Director of Athletics; Joanne Tresnauk McDonald ‘70, President of the Alumnae Association; Leslie Koenig Stack ‘74, Chair of the Capital Campaign Committee and Board of Visitors member; and the school mascot, Gator. Holding the scissors is Susan Walker, President of Saint Gertrude High School. For details about the complex, see the Citizen’s 5/3/12 story about the ground-breaking at http://tinyurl.com/c7u2f47
