Springfield Park Elementary team excels in Knowledge Master Open
The Springfield Park Knowledge Master Team competed in the Knowledge Master Open academic competition and earned a score of 724 out of a possible 1000 points to come in first place in Virginia and 18th place in the United States.
The Knowledge Master Open is an academic competition during which teams of students from all over the country compete to answer 100 questions on various subjects including math, literature, history, geography, fine arts, and science. Teams have only 60 seconds to answer each question and can earn bonus points for answering in less than 30 seconds.
The 22 fifth-grade students on Springfield Park’s team work together to answer the questions posed during the competition. This teamwork gives them the opportunity to appreciate the diverse strengths of individuals in the class. There are also times during which the team has to work together during multi-step problems to arrive at an answer.
The Knowledge Master Open inspires students to study topics that are outside the curriculum and challenges them to be observant. Springfield Park’s team spent two months studying and practicing for the competition and will compete again in the spring competition in March.
