‘Shire Celebration’ kicks off 400th anniversary
|
Henrico County officially kicked off its 400th anniversary yesterday with the Henrico Shire Celebration at the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce. The event was designed to celebrate each of the 13 other localities whose present-day land was located within the original borders of the Henrico Shire. Those localities are Albemarle, Amherst, Appomattox, Buckingham, Chesterfield, Cumberland, Fluvanna, Goochland, Nelson and Powhatan counties and the cities of Charlottesville, Colonial Heights and Richmond. Numerous Henrico officials were joined at the event by Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, officials from many of the other 13 localities, a delegation from Henrico's sister county – Essex County, England – and other guests. The county's 400th anniversary continues later this month with the "Hunt for Henrico" History Jan. 29 at Deep Run Park. (Highlights of the event are shown in the video above.) |
