‘Sea to Shining Sea’ cyclists visit Central Virginia

Virginia State Senator Walter Stosch (R-Henrico) and Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Paul Galanti welcomed a group of disabled veteran cyclists to the Capitol Square in Richmond July 24.

Tomorrow, members of the "Sea to Shining Sea" ride will complete their two-month cross-country trip from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. Members are riding bicycles, hand cycles and recumbent cycles during their trip. Stosch and Galanti are both veterans themselves.

Dominion, MeadWestvaco, and the Virginia Automobile Association sponsored the ride in Central Virginia and coordinated several events for the veterans while they were in town. Participating veterans in the Sea to Shining Sea ride have disabilities ranging from loss of limbs to blindness to Post Traumatic Stress. They served America in wars from Afghanistan and Iraq to Bosnia to Vietnam.

Managed by the leading not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, World T.E.A.M. Sports, the 2012 Sea to Shining Sea ride is designed to honor the courage of military members.
